Azerbaijan openly and actively cooperates with the UN special rapporteurs on human rights, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein said on June 19.

He made the remarks at the 38th session of the UN Human Rights Council being held in Geneva.

During his speech, the high commissioner criticized the human rights situation in several countries of the world and listed the states that are hesitant to cooperate with his Office and the special rapporteurs of the UN.

Zeid al-Hussein also listed 19 countries that openly and actively cooperate with the UN special rapporteurs on human rights and give a positive response to appeals in connection with their visits. These are Azerbaijan, the U.S., Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Great Britain, Chile, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Honduras, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, South Korea, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Ukraine.

The high commissioner noted that these countries have received more than five special rapporteurs on human rights over the past five years.

It is noteworthy that in June last year, the High Commissioner for Human Rights noted that Azerbaijan is among the countries that in time submit their report to the UN human rights structures.
