THE AUTHOR AND actor gave her personal thoughts on the upcoming referendum on repealing the 8th amendment in Ireland.
The 8th amendment currently restricts abortion in Ireland, recognising the life of the unborn as equally important to the life of the mother.
25th May will see the people of Ireland be asked on whether the amendment should be taken out of the constitution or kept.
The vote, should it go through will mark a historic move in securing the reproductive rights of women in modern day Ireland.
Public figures such as Leo Varadkar, Simon Harris and Regina Doherty have expressed their wishes for the amendment to be repealed, and it appears Striking Out's Amy Huberman is another name to join the list.
The actor and wife to rugby star Brian O'Driscoll spoke out about the campaign, putting her support behind #TogetherforYes, a National Civil Society Campaign to remove the Eighth Amendment from the Constitution who have managed to raise all money for their campaign posters voluntarily.
Mrs Huberman took to Twitter to declare she was pro-choice on the matter of abortion: "Firstly I believe each to their own. And in turn the very essence of that being choice. As I see it it isn’t pro anything other than choice. For basic healthcare, compassion, understanding, safety & Trusting Women. Either way make sure you’re registered to vote."
She said her reasons for being pro-choice were based on medical professionals' opinions on the dangerous nature of the law of the 8th: "For me, reading accounts of many doctors and obstetricians saying how it has and is putting women at risk and in danger and how it is as it stands is exporting what is already here. For compassion in crisis. Either way, register before May 8th."
