Brazil Parliament Committee Recommends Dismissing Charges Against Temer
The panel in the lower-house Chamber of Deputies voted against the charges against Brazilian president Michel Temer.
RIO DE JANEIRO (Sputnik) — The Brazilian parliament’s constitution and justice committee agreed Wednesday to recommend dismissing corruption charges against president Michel Temer.
The panel in the lower-house Chamber of Deputies voted 39-26 against the charges of obstructing justice and racketeering, with one abstention, according to the results of televised polling.
11 August 2017, 15:14 GMT
Earlier, Brazil’s attorney general has filed charges of obstruction of justice and racketeering against Temer and six other politicians from his part.
The prosecutor’s office has accused Temer of running a criminal scheme since his time as vice president to commit "illicit actions in exchange for bribes" that brought them at least 587 million Brazilian reals ($188.4 mln) in illegal proceeds.
Michel Temer has already survived one parliamentary vote that rejected another bribery charge against him.
