Ammon News - At least five flights between Australia and Bali have been delayed or cancelled after the second eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in less than a month.
Three return services with Virgin Australia were cancelled following the eruption on Monday and the airline was closely monitoring ash cloud movement to determine whether Tuesday’s scheduled flights were safe to operate, with further delays possible.
A spokesperson for Virgin Australia said “the safety of our guests and crew is our highest priority and our team of expert meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation and ash cloud activity”.
Two Qantas flights had also been delayed, while Jetstar said “several flights” had been cancelled on Monday evening due to volcanic ash on its Travel Alerts webpage.
The volcano, on Indonesia’s tourist island of Flores, last erupted in mid-June, forcing the cancellation of dozens of flights to and from Bali. It followed a fatal eruption last November, when 10 people were killed amid a series of eruptions on the island. The Guardian
