An exhibition on Finnish artist and author Tove Jansson and her Moominvalley characters has opened in New York City.
The Moomin 80th anniversary show is on display at the Brooklyn Public Library until the end of September.
Tove Jansson and the Moomins: The Door Is Always Open is the first major exhibition in the United States to presenting Jansson's life and Moomin characters.
It offers an in-depth look at Jansson's career, life and the world of the Moomins through texts, archival materials, books and events. These include readings, animated film screenings and panel discussions.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Moomin Characters and the City of Tampere, as well as corporate partners Arabia and Finnair.
The exhibition notes that the original illustrations and three-dimensional dioramas donated by Jansson can be seen at the world's only Moomin Museum in Tampere.
Tampere will also host a Moomin exhibition celebrating the 80th anniversary of the publication of the first Moomin story.
"The most important international investment of the anniversary year is the collaboration on the Tove Jansson and the Moomins exhibition, with which we present the Moomin Museum and Tampere to the world," Tampere marketing director Iina Ojala said in a press release.
The Tampere show focuses on the original Moomin House model and its three-year construction process. The exhibition is on display until the end of August at the Moomin Museum in Tampere Hall.
In December, the first US exhibition featuring another iconic Finnish artist, Helene Schjerfbeck, opens at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
