CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois football head coach Bret Bielema and his family have launched an initiative to give back to veterans.

The Illini will have Military Appreciation Day against Maryland Nov. 15, and Bielema has pledged to personally match tickets purchased by fans to fill Memorial Stadium with veterans, active-duty military and their families.

"Our family believes deeply in honoring those who sacrifice so much for our freedom and safety," Bielema said in a statement. "We are grateful for the opportunity to say thank you and give them the chance to enjoy a day of celebration, recognition, and Illini Football."

Fans can participate by purchasing specially designated $20 tickets through the campaign. Bielema will match each ticket purchased.
