Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Gas prices in the State of Illinois rose quite a bit in the past week, but prices are still somewhat low, but varied, in parts of the Springfield area.

GasBuddy.com reports the Illinois statewide average for a gallon of unleaded rose 9.4 cents per gallon, bringing the price to $3.41 per gallon.  Meanwhile, AAA says their statewide average price also went up, with their survey coming in at $3.43.

In Sangamon County, gas prices range from $2.89 to $3.22 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.  AAA’s Sangamon County average is at $3.11.

“With Israel and Iran trading attacks, oil prices have surged to multi-month highs—setting the stage for additional price hikes at gas pumps across the country,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, in a news release. “As long as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, the risk of further impacts on oil prices remains high. For now, I expect gas prices could rise by 10 to 20 cents, while diesel could climb 15 to 25 cents in the coming days. Motorists should prepare for what will likely be modest price increases—for now—but the situation has the potential to worsen at any moment.”

The national gas price average rose 1.1 cents in the past week, according to GasBuddy, moving to $3.08 per gallon.  AAA’s national average is at $3.14.

Prices in Illinois are, according to GasBuddy, 31 cents lower than this time in 2024.
