(WIFR) - The Illinois Department of Natural Resources needs volunteers to help count wild turkeys this summer.

Through an online survey, participants are asked to report young turkeys, adult females and adult males as well as the county and date of observation during the months of June, July and August.

Scientists say the data helps them determine reproductive trends, male-to-female ratios, survival rates and other health indicators for the state’s wild turkey population.

Those who want to help the IDNR but don’t have access to the online survey can have postcards mailed to them.
