Maryland Governor Wes Moore took to social media Friday evening to slam Donald Trump ahead of the president’s planned military parade.
The event — estimated to cost taxpayers $45 million — is slated to take place Saturday evening in Washington, D.C. Trump wrote on Truth Social Saturday morning that it would happen rain or shine. Moore, though, made it clear where he stood on the president’s parade.
“The Army’s 250th Anniversary should be about my fellow service members,” he wrote on X. “Men and women who truly sacrifice for the country we all love. That sacrifice is something this president could never understand.”
Moore also shared a video where he hit on some of the same point. “I’m Wes Moore, the current Governor of the State of Maryland and former Captain in the 82nd Airborne Division, and today I just wrapped up a run in honor of the Army’s 250th,” he said. “You probably heard what the president’s doing tomorrow throwing a whole military parade for himself. It’s because he doesn’t understand what it means to put country before himself. And when I think about that kind of service, I think about Colonel Murphy. Colonel Murphy was the Commandant of Cadets at Valley Forge Military Academy where I attended. He’s one of the most intimidating individuals I’ve ever met, but he was also incredibly fair, and he demanded excellence from every single cadet he commanded. And he also demanded from us a sense of duty, and to make a positive impact in the world.
“He’s no longer with us, but his lessons leave through me and everybody who had the honor of serving under him,” Moore added. “That’s the kind of person who deserves a parade.”
