High school classmates celebrate their 72nd class reunion
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Many of us have attended our high school class reunion. It was a time to catch up with classmates who we had lost touch with over the years. While many of us may feel it’s been a long time since we graduated, the graduates of one Louisville high school are now celebrating their 72nd year since wearing their caps and gowns.
On June 10, members of duPont Manual High School Class of 1953 gathered at Mike Linnig’s for their 72nd class reunion. Approximately 400 students were part of the 1953 class. One hundred members of the class are still living.
Goldie Boone, who will turn 93 in March, says there are several of her classmates who are still in good health. Boone says she continues to do these reunions because she loves seeing her classmates and school.
Bill Lafollette was the yearbook editor. He said when classes started in September 1950, most of the women teachers had never taught boys and the men teachers had never taught girls. Lafollette said they weren’t sure how to do it, but at the end of three years everyone was pleased with the result.
The Class of 1953 says another big change is when they attended Manual it was because students could go to any Louisville Public School they wanted to in the city. Now students have to apply for admission.
