Tennessee man arrested and charged for 2024 Bladen County murder

BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has announced an arrest in a 2024 murder.

According to a news release, 21-year-old Nicolai Chisala Hubbling was arrested in Wilson County on May 29, 2025, in connection with the shooting death of 81-year-old William Scott Lowry.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office states that Lowry was reported missing in late August 2024, where he was last seen walking down F.L. McDaniel Road in Ammon.

“On April 22, 2025 Bladen County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip. The caller stated Nicolai Hubbling had reportedly told several acquaintances about his love of killing animals to dissect but it wasn’t enough he wanted more. Hubbling reportedly stated he had shot and killed William Lowry who appeared to be hitchhiking just outside of Fayetteville on a rural road in Bladen County and disposed of his body in an unknown location,” said BCSO.

The release details that Hubbling was recently discharged from the military and had moved to Tennessee.

He is charged with first-degree murder and is awaiting extradition to Bladen County.
