From April 30 to May 1 this year, the United Nations Population Fund office in Turkmenistan, together with the UNFPA regional office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, held a two-day seminar on developing national potential in the field of demography.
The event was aimed at deepening the knowledge of Turkmenistan's demography specialists and providing them with practical tools for developing and implementing effective demographic policies. The workshop was conducted by Fabio Losa, UNFPA Regional Adviser on Demographic Sustainability Policy, and Aynur Kanafina, Programme Specialist on Population and Development, UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. They shared their accumulated experience in the field of demographic science and policy.
Over the course of two days, participants conducted a technical review of key concepts such as demography, human capital, and demographic dividend; and considered approaches to strengthening demographic literacy at the institutional level.
The participants of the seminar got acquainted with the methodologies and best practices of conducting research in the field of demography, the possibilities of creating a single digital population register. It is important to note that the event was preceded by a visit of a delegation of experts from Turkmenistan to Ankara to study the Turkish experience in the field of population statistics.
