Poland in solidarity with Ukraine on UN peacekeeping mission to occupied Donbas

The position of Poland on the issue of introducing a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission to Donbas is important for Ukraine and this mission should encompass the whole occupied territory in eastern Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"…Poland's help, it's absolutely clear position on this issue is for us extremely important," Poroshenko said in Kharkiv on Wednesday after talks with Polish President Andrzej Duda.

Poroshenko said the peacekeeping format should be in the form of a mission, "not bodyguards." He said the "zone of responsibility – should be the entire occupied territory in eastern Ukraine, not just the line of demarcation."

In turn, Duda said Poland supports sending "blue berets" on a peacekeeping mission encompassing all occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

"Poland supports a peacekeeping mission in line with all standards for such operations, so that this mission is not tasked only with defending observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, so it will be a real peace mission that will operate throughout this territory," the Polish president said.
